Ivory sedge is a clump-forming sedge that spreads gradually by slender, light brown rhizomes. Ideal for a ground cover, especially on the side of the house that has trouble growing grass. Does well in a shade garden and tolerates a variety of soil types and moisture conditions.
Ivory sedge usually grows in coniferous or mixed woodlands, sometimes in fens, stable dunes. It prefers sandy or gravelly soil with a neutral to alkaline pH. It has survived under my Norway maple. Tolerates Deer, Heavy Shade
Grows 3-12"
Blooms (insignificant) May-July
Carex eburnea
Benjamin Vogt of Prairie Up has this to say: The perfect ‘grass’ for dry shade is a sedge. See his article about Ivory Sedge.
