Found in marshes and wet meadows. It tends to form large clumps from thick, creeping rhizomes. Flowers are usually light to deep blue (purple and violet are not uncommon) and bloom during May to July.
Wear gloves when dividing the rhizomes (poisonous). After fall frost, plant leaves may be trimmed back to about 1” above the crown. Will naturalize to form colonies in the wild.
